Everton Publishers was one of the leaders in the field of genealogy and family history research.  The company published a bi-monthly magazine, reference books, and maintained an online research site comprised of numerous databases helpful for genealogical research. I was responsible for publishing the magazine, reference books and online research material, conceptualizing and implementing the marketing campaigns, writing all copy for direct response/advertisements, promotions, the website, and overseeing all departments/operations of the company.

SBP acquired, developed, produced and marketed educational, historical and general market books as a full-service publisher, and also provided book production services for other publishing companies.  The SBP list consisted of 50% educational titles (undergraduate, graduate; postgraduate texts/study guides), 30% historical publications, and 20% general market nonfiction and fiction.  In the educational field SBP specialized in mental health publications and published the national best-selling study guide for the National Counselors Exam (licensure requirement for mental health therapists) and the National Clinical Mental Health Exam (DSM –IV).  In the field of history, SBP published for historical societies, associations, museums and preservation groups.  SBP developed and implemented one of the first book production services utilizing short-run, on-demand production.  I was responsible for directing every aspect of the administration, editorial, production, marketing and sales for the company, and acted as the editor for the majority of SBP publications.  I wrote all direct response copy/packages, responsible for 90% of sales.

I developed and managed a division that published special market books, including “coffee table” publications on sports, the arts, and a series of histories of major metropolitan areas.  Projects included the official book of the 1992 America’s Cup and a 50-year history of the Boston Celtics for the Celtics organization.  I was responsible for   acquisition, production, marketing, and sales of all titles.  Longstreet Press acquired Christopher, Cabot, and Fuller, Ltd.  I wrote all direct response copy/packages, which accounted for 90% of sales.

CCF acquired, developed, produced and marketed limited editions, special market art books, etc.  Publications included Blinds and Shutters, selected by Time Magazine as one of their ten top “gift books” in 1989, and a series of nautical art and photography books published in partnership with Mystic Seaport Museum.  I was responsible for the management of all aspects of the company’s operation, and wrote all direct response copy.

I developed and managed the special publications division for Taylor.  Duties included conceptualizing, acquiring, developing projects, then designing, writing and implementing marketing campaigns for each project.  Publications included the official book of record and history of the America’s Cup in 1983 for the New York Yacht Club and the America’s Cup Committee, the 25th anniversary history of Vail Valley for Vail Associates, a series of college and university histories, a series of regional histories published through historical societies and museums, and a series of art books.
